Course Objective

After completing the training, the participant:

Possesses knowledge of the basics of construction, operation, installation and selection of bearings used in industrial machines
Possesses knowledge of the identification and characterization of basic groups of rolling and sliding bearings
Knows the design varieties of bearings and their basic operating parameters
Is able to identify features given in technical documentation (catalog cards and assembly instructions) and knows the requirements for building conditions
Knows practical assembly and disassembly techniques, seal types, and methods and principles of lubrication of rolling and sliding bearings
Can independently select bearings and control operating parameters – learning in relation to actual operating conditions
Diagnoses bearings – science in the aspect of improving the reliability of machines and devices
Independently analyzes bearing damage and knows how to identify and eliminate faults that cause downtime and breakdowns

day 1	General information about bearings and bearing systems used in the construction of industrial machines Sliding bearings Introduction and characteristics of the use of plain bearings Construction and classification of plain bearings Conditions and technical varieties of sliding friction Rolling bearings Introduction and characteristics of the use of rolling bearings Structure and classification of radial and thrust rolling bearings The process of manufacturing rolling bearings Basic functional features of rolling bearings Analysis of tolerances and fits as well as dimensional chains in the construction of bearing units (solving dimensional chains, determining the type of fit) Theoretical basics of mounting and dismounting rolling bearings - selection of fit (types of ring loads, bearing load cases) Designation of rolling bearings, rolling bearing systems (basic solutions of rolling bearing systems, application and loads of rolling bearing systems)
day 2	Rolling bearings Selection of rolling bearings (general selection principles in terms of hourly life and equivalent load) Theoretical basics of mounting and dismounting rolling bearings (mounting requirements, mechanical mounting, thermal mounting, hydraulic mounting) Methods of securing rolling bearings (bearing nuts and bearing washers, snap rings, retaining covers and sleeves, mounting bearings on shaft journals) Lubrication of rolling bearings (lubrication purposes, selection of lubricant, periodic lubrication of bearings, grease lubrication) Rolling bearing seals (classification of seals, groups of elastomers used to make seals and their characteristics) Visual assessment of operational wear of rolling bearings
day 3	Practical exercises in mounting and dismounting rolling bearings Mechanical assembly and disassembly of bearings in blind holes Mechanical assembly and disassembly of bearings on the outer surfaces of shafts Mounting and dismounting self-aligning bearings using hydraulic nuts Thermal assembly and disassembly of cylindrical roller bearings (using heaters and induction plates) Dismantling bearings with mechanical and hydraulic pullers Bearing clearance measurements The use of stethoscopes (vibroacoustic diagnostics) to diagnose the operational condition of rolling bearings.

Laboratory equipment

The training rooms and laboratories are air-conditioned, large, and spacious. The student stations are specially equipped. During the training, students have access to real bearings, tools, equipment, and training stations for bearing assembly and disassembly, as well as diagnostic equipment.

Demonstration assembly and disassembly stations

To supplement theoretical classes, we use demonstration stations for mounting and dismounting bearings using various techniques and tools.

Demonstration bearings in various varieties

Training participants have access to a variety of bearing types from leading manufacturers, allowing them to gain an in-depth understanding of their design.

Self-assembly and disassembly training stations

High-class training stations enabling trainees to become familiar with the methods of mounting and dismounting rolling bearings using mechanical, thermal and hydraulic methods.

Tools and devices for mounting and dismounting rolling bearings

We provide students with: punches, induction heater, internal pullers, mechanical puller, hydraulic pullers, mechanical "unsticker", hydraulic nuts.

Devices for diagnosing rolling and sliding bearings

We provide students with: vibration recorders, vibrometer pens, oscilloscopes, endoscopic cameras, and industrial stethoscopes.

Training methods

The basic elements of the course are:

theoretical presentation of the issues of operation and construction of bearings, in terms of practical application in industrial realities
in the case of conducting training for maintenance engineers and technicians, an additional element is the extension of knowledge to methods of diagnosing damage and forecasting possible failures of the presented technical means
in the case of training for design engineers and personnel responsible for machine modifications, methods and task examples of bearing selection are presented
the combination of theoretical and practical scopes allows for the development of a comprehensive set of knowledge regarding the basics of design and operational requirements
The training also placed significant emphasis on understanding the essence of TPM requirements (time lost for identifying faults, collecting tools and identifying bearing assembly features based on documentation guidelines)

Differentiation of types and design varieties of bearings
Assessment of the operational condition of bearings based on a visual assessment of damage to the bearing structural elements and associated parts

Identification of areas in which the time needed to repair a failure caused by bearing node damage can be minimized

Additional remarks

Practical exercises conducted as part of the training are performed at laboratory stations that emit:
- electromagnetic fields (induction heaters),
- thermal energy,
it is recommended to exercise particular caution and observe occupational health and safety rules when using specialized equipment,
it is recommended to inform the instructors about the presence of medical devices such as metal prostheses, cardiac electrostimulators, cochlear implants and other implants,
It is obligatory to use personal protective equipment provided by trainers as part of the training.
