Siemens Sinamics S120 in TIA Portal – configuration, commissioning, diagnostics – level 2
Course objective:
After completing the training, the participant:- designs the architecture of a drive system based on SINAMICS S120 and SIMATIC S7-1500
- independently prepares the PLC design and drive configuration in TIA Portal / Startdrive
- creates its own software solutions for controlling drives and axes
- uses extended communication telegrams and advanced data exchange mechanisms
- configures and applies the controller's technological functions S7-1500 for axle control
- performs positioning on both the drive and PLC sides
- configures and implements advanced drive safety features (e.g. SS1)
- performs advanced diagnostics, optimization and testing of drive systems

The training is aimed at people who design and integrate advanced drive systems based on converters SINAMICS S120 and drivers SIMATIC S7-1500 in the environment TIA Portal
- automation system integrators implementing complete machine and technological line projects
- designers of drive systems and control systems based on SINAMICS S120

Laboratory equipment
The training rooms and laboratories are air-conditioned, large, and spacious. The student workstations are specially equipped. Individualized work is our priority, which is why we provide each trainee with a fully equipped, exclusive training station.
All workstations are equipped with a laptop with software, a SIMATIC S7-1500 controller connected to an innovative execution station containing, among other things, a SINAMICS S120 converter.
CONVERTER Siemens SINAMICS S120
Participants have access to individual stations based on a Siemens SINAMICS S120 frequency converter. The station consists of the following components:
- CU320 central unit in Profinet version
- SmartLine version power module with input mains choke
- Dual-motor inverter module
- Components connected via a communication bus for drives - Drive-Cliq
Siemens SIMATIC S7-1516F PN/DP CONTROLLERS with input/output cards:
Each training participant has a dedicated workstation designed for learning industrial tasks and solutions based on the Siemens S7-1516F PN/PD controller. The training workstation consists of a controller equipped with digital and analog input/output modules, connected to a digital and analog input and output signal simulator.
Software
SIEMENS TIA Portal V19 is the next version of the integrated design environment that supports solving engineering tasks by including all the necessary software packages in one place:
- STEP7 for programming PLC controllers,
- WinCC for creating visualizations for HMI operator panels and SCADA systems,
- STEP7 Safety for preparing a safety program,
- Startdrive for operating SINAMICS series drive units,
- And many others, such as SiVArc and TestSuite.
