Can a disabled person take a CNC machine operation course?
Disabilities are not a barrier to taking a CNC course. Operating CNC machines, especially those producing small parts, does not require the same physical effort as working with conventional machine tools.
Some training centers also offer the opportunity for disabled people to complete CNC courses as part of projects co-financed by, for example, the European Union or District Employment Offices.
A CNC operator works daily with machines such as CNC lathes and CNC milling machines. Their duties include reading technical drawings, programming CNC machines, selecting and setting appropriate tools, and ensuring the quality of completed tasks.
A company offering employment to people with disabilities should be able to guarantee them appropriate rights in CNC operator positions. These include the right to:
- additional break
- first shift work (during the day)
- applying the scope of duties to the psychophysical capabilities of a given person
If an occupational medicine physician issues a certificate allowing the performance of CNC operator duties, there is no basis for the employer to avoid employing a person with a disability certificate.
