technical diagnostics and vibroacoustics

Vibroacoustics is a branch of acoustics that studies the phenomena of coupling between acoustic and mechanical vibrations. Vibroacoustics also addresses methods for reducing vibration and noise from machines during operation.

List of training courses: Machine diagnostics

The most common application of vibroacoustics is in the field of technology known as machine diagnostics. Technical diagnostics involves determining the operational status of a machine by measuring mechanical vibrations and/or noise in selected structural nodes. Statistical methods and spectral analysis of signals are used to analyze the measurements. Vibroacoustics also employs numerical calculation methods to determine the interrelationships between machine vibration distributions and emitted noise. This allows for the determination of characteristic frequencies and damping of the machine structure.

In technical diagnostics, the following phases with increasing degree of application difficulty are distinguished:

• fault detection (e.g. activation of the alarm when the normal state threshold is exceeded based on the sensor reading),
• fault isolation (indication of which sensor and what measured physical quantity triggered the alarm),
• assessment of the extent of the malfunction (impact of the severity of the malfunction on the possibility of further operation),
• classification (indication of which type of disability is, has or will occur).
